Our hike through the Seidlwinkeltal in Hohe Tauern National Park starts on Hotel Alpina in RaurisAfter a 15-minute drive we reach the Fleckweide car park. Only hunters and alpine pasture owners are allowed to drive further.

By bus into the valley

From the Parking “Fleckweide” We take the 10:35 am bus to make the hike a little easier. The bus departure times are at 9:05 am, 10:35 am, 11:25 am, 2:00 pm, 3:10 pm and 4:41 pm. Note that the bus stops about 50 meters after the parking lot! We almost missed it because we were waiting at the parking lot.

The bus stops:

  • Gollehenalm
  • Palfner Alm
  • Tauernhaus

The trip costs 4 euros per person from the second station, the first station is with the Hohe Tauern National Park Card free of charge. The journey takes us past the Gollehenalm and the Palfner Alm to the Rauriser Tauernhaus and already offers fantastic views of the surrounding landscape.
The walking time from the Fleckweide car park to the first stop, Gollehenalm, is about 1 hour if you are more athletic.

From Tauernhaus to Litzelhofalm and back

After 20 minutes we reach the final stop, the Rauriser Tauernhaus. From here the most beautiful part of the Seidlwinkeltal begins: the footpath to the Litzelhofalm. The path leads slightly uphill along a stream and offers breathtaking views. In the second half, smaller waterfalls cross the path again and again.

After about 45 minutes we reach the Litzelhofalm at an altitude of 1718 meters. This alpine pasture was named Alpine Pasture of the Year in 2011 and offers delicious snacks, including the fresh buttermilk, which we can highly recommend - both plain and with cranberries. They also offer snack platters and various breads.

We set off back again, from now on it's all downhill. Unfortunately the weather is getting worse.

The Tauernhaus

Once we've had our fill, we make our way back to the Tauernhaus, which we reach at 1:00 p.m. This hut is located at 1,526 meters and has existed for over 500 years. The smoke kitchen and parlor are still in their original condition and offer a rustic atmosphere with old wooden floors and traditional utensils. This and the other huts offer very nice playgrounds for children. For dinner, there are sausages or other traditional hut dishes.

From Tauernhaus to Palfner Alm

After a short break and a delicious meal, we hike on to the Palfner Alm. This alpine pasture is located at 1330 meters and has been farmed for four generations. It was built in 1730.

Children's hearts beat faster here because there is a water playground, trampoline, calves and free-range pigs to pet, a sandpit and much more.

It is open from May to October and offers an idyllic location. Here we again enjoy fresh buttermilk and a snack. To finish off, there is a homemade apple strudel with vanilla sauce.

From the Palfner Alm to the Gollehenalm

The path from the Palfner Alm to the Gollehenalm is relatively short at 2.2 kilometers and leads along a gravel forest road. Although this section is less spectacular, it still offers beautiful views of nature.

After about half an hour we reach the Gollehenalm, our last stop. The Gollehenalm was named “Hut of the Year” in 2013 and offers idyllic surroundings with a small children’s playground, grazing horses and a petting zoo. Here we treat ourselves to a quick beer before the bus drives back to the car park at 3:56 p.m. If you have more time, you can also get venison sausage, cheese, bacon, various pastries, liqueurs and more.
