General information about the Bohemian Prater
During the Vienna Prater is known far beyond the country's borders, it is usually only the Viennese who know the traditional Bohemian Prater. It all began over 100 years ago, when 20 restaurants and numerous showmen set up shop in the Laa Forest in 1884, forming the basis of the small Prater, which soon took on the name "Bohemian Prater" received. It soon became the most important place of entertainment for the people of Favoriten and Simmering.
Today, the small amusement park has an area of approx. 5000 m². The centre of the Bohemian Prater is the Tivoli event centre. The Bohemian Prater is particularly popular with young families.
As in the Vienna Prater you don't have to pay admission here. Only the individual rides on the sometimes ancient vehicles cost admission. This can vary greatly, as some operators manage several attractions, others only individual ones. The respective tokens are only valid for these attractions. The more you buy, the cheaper they become.
You have to pay around €3 per ride. So it's a lot cheaper here than in the Prater, but not as spectacular. We recommend the Bohemian Prater for kindergarten to primary school children. Everyone else will be rather bored here. On the other hand, the atmosphere here is much more relaxed. We were there with our 3-year-old, who just couldn't get enough. However, parents and grandparents will enjoy the nostalgic rides.
The attractions
- As in the large Prater, the Bohemian Prater also has a Ferris wheel. It was built in 1988, but only has a diameter of 21 metres, has 14 gondolas and is operated by the Reinhardt fairground company. A special feature of this Ferris wheel is that its hub rests on a single supporting structure.
- There is a Autodrome for the very young as well as for teenagers and adults.
- Children's ghost train
- Several Carousels (Lollipop, aeroplane, fairytale carousel, vehicles, Ufo Force, disco autodrome...). Here is also the Europe's oldest carousel. Emperor Franz Joseph is said to have been the guest of honour when it opened in 1890. The oldest wooden horse carousel in Europe is now a listed building. Before a motor was installed, it was driven by hand by staff in the basement of the carousel.
