To Franzensburg
The Franzensburg, built between 1799 and 1835, is the jewel of the castle park. Originally designed as a medieval knight's castle, it now houses a museum that represents the "Austrian treasury". The castle was built on an artificial island and can be reached by a ferry that runs from Easter to November 1st. Otherwise, you can simply walk across the bridge.
General information about the castles
The palace park is home to two main castles: the Old Palace and the Blue Court. The Old Palace, originally a hunting lodge surrounded by moats, served as the Habsburgs' spring residence until the First World War.
