Kitzbühel is located in north-eastern Tyrol, around 95 kilometres east of Innsbruck. The sophisticated town is internationally recognised as one of the most important winter sports resorts in the Alps. Who hasn't heard of the famous FIS Hahnenkamm race? The annual Kitzbühel Generali Tennis Open Air is also gaining in importance.
The town centre, which is well worth seeing, is still partly surrounded by an old castle wall. The houses are all beautifully maintained and colourfully restored. You can see straight away that money is at home here, as you will find a large number of exclusive shops and cafés. In any case, the little town invites you to stroll around, as the town centre is largely free of cars.
Incidentally, the town is celebrating 750 years of Kitzbühel in 2021.
Holidaymakers in Kitzbühel have 53 cable car and lift facilities and 170 kilometres of pistes at their disposal in the local ski area, plus 32 kilometres of cross-country trails for cross-country skiers.
In summer, there are 120 kilometres to explore by mountain bike and 500 kilometres in hiking boots. Other attractions include six tennis courts and four golf courses, the Kitzbühel swimming pool, Austria's only curling hall and the beautiful Schwarzsee lake.
Special mention should be made of tourism in the high-price segment, as many celebrities come here at the time of the Hahnenkamm race, among other things.
