The Schiederweiher has been known throughout the country since the programme "9 Plätze - 9 Schätze". In 2018, it was voted by the TV public voted the most beautiful place in Austria. You also see this place very often on Instagram
The Schiederweiher is an artificially created lake in the Upholstered hatch The lake is located at an altitude of 612 metres below the Großer Priel in the Totes Gebirge. The approximately 2-hectare pond is around 1 to 1.5 metres deep. Numerous information boards provide insights into life in and around the water. On fine days, the Spitzmauer and the Große Priel are reflected in the crystal-clear pond, leaving an unforgettable impression. In the Polsterlucke, the entire imposing mountain backdrop of the Totes Gebirge is impressive.
How do I get to the Schiederweiher?
The best place to park is at the "Schiederweiher Hinterstoder" car park. It can get quite busy here at weekends and on nice days. We recommend arriving in the morning (even though early morning fog obscured our view when we arrived - fortunately this cleared later in the morning).
From the car park, cross the Steyr bridge over the beautiful Johannishof estate. Then follow the path to the left along the "Polsterlucke", past meadow edges and later on a gravel road.
Follow the signs for "Polsterluckenrunde/Flötzersteig" and you can hardly miss the path to the Schiederweiher pond. There is a marvellous view of the Spitzmauer and Gr. Priel, which are often reflected in the crystal-clear pond. There are several benches along the pond.
We can also recommend the Polsterstüberl. Here you can enjoy the cosy view, relax and enjoy a delicious snack.
