The most famous reservoir in the Zillertal, if not in all of Austria, can be reached via the 13.3 km long Schlegeis Alpine Road, which is subject to tolls. Numerous hikes and tours start from here. The most famous is probably the one to the Olperer Hut and the bridge above it. If you don't know the photos of the famous suspension bridge, you don't have Instagram. Period. How to get there, However, we will discuss this in this blog.
Unlike other reservoirs, you can arrive here in your own car. However, the early bird catches the worm, as it can get quite busy in summer when everyone wants to go to the lake at the same time at lunchtime. Before driving up, you can also find out about the current parking situation by calling +43 (0)50 313 23201.
Even from the shore path of the reservoir you have a wonderful view of the emerald green water. In the background you can see the Schlegeiskees, the highest mountain in the Zillertal Alps.
We recommend walking across the 725 m long dam. From May to October you can take a guided tour of the Schlegeis Dam, which lasts about an hour.
Cost: 5.5€/per adult and 3€ for children (6-15 years)
There is also a via ferrata directly on the dam wall, which is also suitable for beginners. In addition to the via ferrata, a 600-meter-long flying fox, a 131-meter-high abseiling station and various climbing routes ensure plenty of action and adventure. Equipment can also be rented on site.
