Hightlight
- Parking spot
Probably by far the most famous reservoir in the Zillertal, if not in the whole of Austria, can be reached via the 13.3 km long Schlegeis Alpine Road, which is subject to a toll. Numerous hikes and tours lead from here. The most famous is probably the one to the Olperer Hut and the bridge above it. If you don’t know the photos of the famous suspension bridge, you don’t have Instagram. Period. However, we will discuss how to get there in this blog
In contrast to other reservoirs, you can travel here with your own car. However, the early bird catches the worm, because in summer it can get quite crowded here when everyone wants to go to the lake at noon. Before driving up, you can also inquire about the current parking situation on +43 (0) 50 313 23201.
Even from the path along the banks of the reservoir you have a wonderful view of the emerald green water. In the background you can see the Schlegeiskees, the highest mountain in the Zillertal Alps.
The walk over the 725 m long dam is recommended. From May to October you can take a guided tour of the Schlegeis Dam, which takes about an hour.
Costs: 5.5 € / per adult and 3 € for children (6-15 years)
There is also a via ferrata directly on the dam, which is also suitable for beginners. In addition to the via ferrata, a 600 meter long flying fox, a 131 meter high abseiling station and various climbing routes ensure plenty of action and adventure. The equipment can also be borrowed on site.
