Brief information:
- What is the Schlögener Loop? A loop of the river in Upper Austria
- Where is it located? About halfway between Linz and Passau
- Does it cost entry? No, but the parking lot in Schlögen is chargeable.
- Can you drive directly? No, it takes about a 30-minute hike
The imposing 180-degree bend of the river lies in the upper Danube valley, which is often described as the most beautiful and pristine section of the Danube.
There are views of the course of the Danube at the Schlögener Schlinge from the Haichenbach castle ruins, from the “Steiner Felsen”, from the “Linetshuber Aussicht” and from the “Schlögener Blick”.
Hike to the Schlögener Blick
We park our car directly below by the Schlinge, at the Donausteig starting point “Schlögen”. This is on the driveway to the “Hotel Donauschlinge”. Guests park for free, everyone else has to put € 5 per car in a machine. This is the minimum fee and applies for 24 hours, even if you only stay 1 hour.
The viewing point “Schlögener Blick”, the natural wonder of Upper Austria, is located directly on the Donausteig and can be reached in 30 minutes from Schlögen.
You walk past the hotel in the direction of the hiking trail. It is not to be missed, hiking boards show 1.4km. Now you go uphill for about 30 minutes through a forest path. The path is quite beautiful, but overall unspectacular.
In the end, however, you will be rewarded with an imposing view. Unfortunately, during our visit in autumn, the sun hardly makes it over the mountain, so most of it is in the shade.
TIP: you can also go for a wonderful walk down by the river bank!
