Tiergarten Schönbrunn – A Unique Wildlife Experience
Tiergarten Schönbrunn is among the few zoos in Europe that house Giant Pandas. As you enter the zoo on the right side, you can observe these fascinating creatures eating or sleeping. Remarkably, in 2007, “Yang Yang” gave birth to the first naturally born Panda baby in Europe, without artificial insemination.
The Majestic Polar Bear World
Another highlight is the enclosure of the Polar Bears, famously known as the “Franz Josef Land Polar Bear World.” Since 2014, you have the opportunity to watch these majestic creatures dive underwater. Directly across from the Polar Bears, you’ll find the penguins, both indoors and outdoors.
The Fascinating Polarium
Just a few steps away is the Polarium, where you can watch maned seals swim through an impressive 13-meter-long glass enclosure. During the popular feeding times, the seals climb onto the rocks and jump into the water to catch their food fish.
Adventure in the Rainforest House
The Rainforest House is currently undergoing renovations but still offers a glimpse of a mountainside in the Southeast Asian rainforest. Here, you’ll find rare animals such as the Batagur River Turtle, Dwarf Otters, various bird species, Flying Foxes, Pythons, and Fijian Iguanas. Advanced technology ensures a year-round minimum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius with 80 percent humidity.
Explore Aquaria and Terrariums
You’ll enter the Aquaria and Terrarium House through the captivating Crocodile Pavilion. Here, you’ll encounter giant turtles that can live up to 100 years. Inside the Aquaria House, you’ll be treated to captivating views of the underwater world, including Piranhas, Firefish, Moray Eels, and Rays. There’s also an impressive coral reef with hundreds of fish species from the Indo-Pacific. Tiergarten Schönbrunn is globally renowned for having the most diverse jellyfish species, showcased in four jellyfish tanks. A tunnel aquarium with Arapaimas leads you to the Terrarium House, home to snakes, iguanas, and other rare reptiles like Pinecone Lizards.
Even More to Discover
Leopards, Tigers, and Cheetahs may not always be easy to spot, as they have their own hideaways. However, with patience and luck, you can experience them in their habitat.
For our younger guests, Tiergarten offers both a petting zoo and a playground. You’ll also find culinary delights ranging from cozy garden restaurants to snack stalls. And, of course, an ice cream parlor is a must-visit. We recommend bringing your own healthy snacks and beverages.
One thing is for sure: Every visit to Tiergarten Schönbrunn promises new animals to discover and exciting adventures. A yearly pass is undoubtedly worthwhile, as it costs only about twice as much as a single-day ticket!
