Just a few meters from the restaurant of the mountain station on the Stubnerkogel is a suspension bridge that provides a real thrill. The gently swinging rope construction leads visitors from the terrace of the restaurant to the transmitter system. Here you need a head for heights and strong nerves when crossing the 140 m long bridge, as it is not only slightly swaying, but also allows you to see through. Adventurous summiteers are only kept away from the approx. 28 m deep abyss by a railing made of wire mesh.
“With its suspension cables and wind ropes, which limit the range of oscillation, the bridge can withstand wind speeds of up to 200 km / h,” says mountain railway director Franz Schafflinger the cliffs looked. “At first I just said jokingly: let’s span a suspension bridge!” reports Bergbahnen CEO Schafflinger.
With the Stubnerkogelbahn you can easily get to the summit and, as soon as you have crossed the suspension bridge, you can take a walk on the beautiful circular hiking trail on the ridge of the Stubnerkogel. Here, hikers can expect sensational views of the Hohe Tauern.
