Just a few meters from the restaurant at the Stubnerkogel mountain station there is a suspension bridge that provides a real thrill. The gently swinging rope construction leads visitors from the restaurant terrace to the transmitter. A head for heights and strong nerves are required when crossing the 140 m long bridge, as it not only swings gently but also allows you to see through it. Adventurous summiteers are only kept away from the 28 m deep abyss by a wire mesh railing.
"The bridge can withstand wind speeds of up to 200 km/h with its support and wind cables, which limit the range of vibrations," says cable car manager Franz Schafflinger. Visitors gave him the idea of building the suspension bridge, as they were always very impressed when they looked over the cliffs. "At first I just said jokingly: let's put a suspension bridge across!" reports cable car manager Schafflinger.
The Stubnerkogel cable car takes you to the summit very easily and, once you have crossed the suspension bridge, you can take a walk on the beautiful circular hiking trail along the ridge of the Stubnerkogel. Here, hikers can expect sensational views of the Hohe Tauern.
In summer, you can take the cable cars to the Stubnerkogel and experience the Gastein suspension bridge
