Rafting adventure on the Tiroler Ache

Our unforgettable rafting adventure on the Tiroler Ache

We had the pleasure of hosting a family-friendly Rafting tour on the Tiroler Ache to experience. We booked our tour through https://sportundnatur.com/
The tour started directly at the provider and led us through the impressive Entenlochklamm across the German border. Our adventure began at 1:30 p.m. and ended at 4:00 p.m.

The Base Camp

We park at the modern center right on the Tiroler Ache. In addition to various rafting tours, canyoning, cycling, hiking tours, archery, paragliding and more are offered here. So there is definitely something for the adrenaline junkie.

The base camp is equipped with changing rooms, toilets, showers as well as a café-bar with snacks and a cozy chill out area.

Equipment and safety

Before the tour we were given life jackets, helmets, and if requested, neoprene suits and neoprene shoes. After the safety briefing and dry run by our experienced rafting guide Sabine, we set off. Rafting on the Tiroler Ache is doable for everyone, as the difficulty of the route is classified as moderate. The route offers irregular currents, waves and individual rocks, which provides enough excitement without being overwhelming. Our tour was designed for families with children aged 5 and over anyway, which gave us a particularly safe feeling.

Start of the tour

We put the boat in the water right at the base camp at around 2 p.m. and get on board. The current is very low. The guests paddle and Sabine skillfully steers the boat. We have enough time to adjust to the conditions, take photos and enjoy the trip through the Tyrolean landscape.
Sabine keeps telling us interesting facts about the river and the surrounding area.

The tour through the Entenlochklamm

About half an hour later the river starts to narrow and we approach the Entenlochklamm.

The Entenlochklamm, also known as the Entenlochschlucht, is an impressive gorge along the Großache (Tyrolean Ache) in the border area between Tyrol and Bavaria. This natural rock formation stretches for about 2.5 kilometers and offers a spectacular landscape characterized by steep rock faces and the roaring waters of the Ache.

We paddled through the picturesque landscape of the Entenlochklamm, through forests, past steep cliffs and wild rapids. The thrill of the white water, combined with the breathtaking natural scenery, made this tour an unforgettable experience.

After about an hour we even have time to stop at a bridge and go swimming or just let ourselves drift in the current. A really nice way to cool down on this hot day. The whole thing is great fun, we are not under any time pressure and the atmosphere is pleasantly relaxed and entertaining.

We leave Austria

Our blog ends here.
No, of course not. Nobody notices us as an illegal smuggling boat 😉
However, this is the first time we are actually on the Tiroler Ache, as it is only called that in Germany. In Tyrol it is called Großarche.

An unforgettable conclusion

Unfortunately, our trip ends around 4 p.m. For us, it could have continued forever. A van with a trailer for the boat takes us comfortably to the Base Camp We are extremely satisfied and amazed at how intense and exciting the 8 km tour was.

This rafting tour is an absolute must and we would do it again in a heartbeat. An experience that we can recommend to every family!
