Tyrol: Time out at Lake Achensee

Tyrol: Time out at Lake Achensee

The Lake Achensee. Probably one of the most beautiful lakes in Austria – and also one of the coldest.
We were in the region for three days and visited the Travel Charme Fürstenhaus am Achensee tested.

We arrive at the hotel around midday and are greeted with a glass of sparkling wine and delicious chocolates. As our room is not ready yet, we ask at reception about cycling tours. The Achensee is a very popular destination for cyclists - and there are accordingly many options. We quickly realized, however, that we would choose the cycling tour to the Gern Alm through the Karwendel Nature Park, as there is a deer enclosure there!

We can rent the e-bikes directly from the hotel for a small fee - a really great service! The ride takes around 40 minutes (including stops to explore the Karwendel Nature Park) until we finally arrive at the Gern Alm.

The absolute highlight here is definitely the deer enclosure. There is even a vending machine where you can buy food and feed the deer.

An incredible experience that we highly recommend if you are in the region!

Since we really want to go to the wellness area today, we drive straight back to the hotel.

When we got there, our room was already ready. We opted for a double room with a mountain view. The rooms are spacious and very modern, the bathroom is extremely large and the balcony with a view of the surrounding mountains is a real dream.

Now it's time to head to the wellness area. Since the weather isn't playing along, we're mostly staying indoors. It's probably too cold for the lake today.

The water worlds of the over 3000 mThe large wellness area is equipped with an indoor, outdoor and whirlpool. The whirlpool is located at the front of the hotel and promises a unique view of Lake Achensee. At the back is the outdoor pool, from where you can look out over the surrounding massive Tyrolean mountains.

The Fürstenhaus's wellness offering also includes five saunas. Every sauna-goer is treated to a treat here. The highlight, however, is definitely the panoramic sauna, from which you can look directly out onto the lake and feel as if you are floating above it.

After two hours of relaxation and rest, we now head to dinner. We also have this in the hotel's own restaurant, Laurentius. The very modern restaurant with huge glass fronts and a view of the lake invites you to linger.
The Laurentius is a true culinary treasure. In addition to an evening menu, you can also choose from an extensive à la carte menu.

Today we're starting with seared Arctic char from Upper Austria with beetroot, cucumber and chilli, and for the main course we're having salmon fillet with gremolata, tomato-cucumber and rice.

After dinner we enjoyed some cocktails in the Furisto lounge.

day 2

After a very good night’s sleep (the beds in the Princely house on Lake Achensee are incredibly cozy) we go to breakfast. The buffet leaves absolutely nothing to be desired and offers not only regional hits but also a wide range of international delicacies.

Today we want to explore the area around the Fürstenhaus on Lake Achensee. We set off on the hotel's e-bikes and ride along the lake. No matter which angle you look at the region from, it is a gem from every side.

Finally, we arrive at the Rofan cable car. We noticed the cable car on the way there, so we absolutely have to take it up the mountain. Normally, you can even take your bike up the mountain, but unfortunately it's too busy for that today.
For €22 per person you get a trip up and down. The Rofan cable car goes up and down every 15 minutes. After a short wait we are already in the cable car and drive to the mountain station. The journey also takes about 15 minutes and we are already at 1840 meters above sea level - an ideal starting point for many hikes.

We hike up the Gschöllkopf. The hike is short and not very demanding, so it is really suitable for everyone. In 35 minutes (the hike is written as 45) we are at the summit, where a viewing platform with a 360 degree view awaits us.

After a short break, we head back towards the mountain station and stop for a quick drink at the Erfurter Hut. This was built by the German Alpine Association. Here, too, you can enjoy incredible views of Lake Achensee and the surrounding area.

Since the weather is getting better and better, we want to get back to the hotel as soon as possible. The Fürstenhaus am Achensee is the only hotel in Pertisau that has direct access to the lake from the hotel - and we're taking advantage of that today!

So we take the cable car back down to the valley and ride our e-bikes back to the hotel. After a quick refreshment in the garden, it's time - today we even have a lounger right on the jetty!

Most of the guests in the hotel are probably out and about, so it feels like you are almost alone in the wellness area. Pure relaxation!

When we checked in, the staff told us that you can rent stand-up paddles from the spa reception. We've always wanted to try them, and today is the day!

We were given the SUPs straight away and were able to get into the water straight from the hotel's own jetty. A pure experience. Admittedly, it takes a while to understand how to handle these "things". But once you've got the hang of it, it's extremely fun!

Tired from an action-packed day, we go back to our room and get ready for dinner. Today we have reserved a table at Laurentius again.

But today we're having something very classic: Cordon bleu with salad from the salad buffet. We can't manage more today, we're too tired from the day and are going to bed at 9 p.m. 😉

Last day in the Princely House at Lake Achensee

On the third and last day in the Fürstenhaus am Achensee, we only manage to enjoy breakfast. Unfortunately, we have to leave early because work is calling again...

The holiday was one of the best we have ever had. We will remember the hotel and the region forever. We will definitely come back - and if we do, then it will be to the Fürstenhaus am Achensee!
