Tyrol: Waterfall circular trail in Ehrwald

Tyrol: Waterfall circular trail in Ehrwald

Parents often have the problem that they would like to go hiking, but the children don't want to/can't join in (yet). This short hike offers the perfect solution. The children are taught through games and entertainment, while the parents can still enjoy the Tyrolean mountains and landscape.

Tour dates:

  • Start: a few meters after the Ehrwalder Almbahn car park (Dr. Ludwig Ganghoferstr 66, 6632 Ehrwald)
  • Refreshment stops: Brent Alm
  • Pure walking time: approx. 1 hour/ with children it takes approx. 1.5 hours
  • Difficulty: Lightweight - especially suitable for children! Can also be used with a stroller at first.
  • Total path length: 3.3 km long circular route
  • Altitude metres: only a few 😉
  • Season: recommended June to mid-October, but possible at any time

The hike

We park once again at the Ehrwalder Almbahn - from here our Hike to Seebensee and Drachensee. This circular trail starts directly from there. Our hike begins at 10:30 a.m. A ride on the Almbahn is not necessary this time, however, as the circular trail starts at the valley station. The trail runs along the Gaisbach to the source area. At the start we take a hiking pass for our youngest.

There are several stations along the trail where children can quench their thirst for knowledge. At the first station there is a small waterfall with a water mill in which a secret number is hidden. As soon as you have found it, you can enter it in your hiking pass. After a short splash, we continue on. The mascot “Zugspitzi” is a constant companion on the circular trail.

At the second station, the path continues left along the water.

The path is beautiful, whether for young or old. After about half an hour you reach the highest free-falling waterfall in Tyrol. When we arrive, however, there is hardly any waterfall to be seen, as hardly any water is falling down. In addition to the waterfall, there is something else unusual to discover - the Herrenbründl: water bubbles out of the fur, which disappears again after 30m. Unfortunately, we can only see it from a great distance from here.

A little later, there is another opportunity to photograph the waterfall through an artificially installed picture frame. As already mentioned, there is hardly a waterfall to be seen these days, even with a camera zoom. Nevertheless, the surroundings are fantastic.

After about an hour you reach the highest point of the hike. Here you can stamp the children's hiking pass. Wooden benches invite you to rest. We walk downhill again on the easy path, we still need 3 secret numbers to complete the stamp card. Luckily we can solve the puzzle. If you have the right code, you can get a small hiking pin for the children (or adults) at the tourist office.

After about 1.5 hours we arrive back at the parking lot. Just in time for lunch.

Brent Alm

The Brent Alm is located right next to the car park and the cable car station. We were here a few days ago when we Drachensee and Seebensee have hiked.

We order a Kaspressknödelsuppe, Tiroler Gröstl and a Kaiserschmarren.

The homemade soup is highly recommended, the Gröstl is tasty, but also very oily. Well, fat carries flavor.

The Kaiserschmarren comes with apple sauce and cranberries and is simply world class!
