Tyrol: Waterfall circular route in Ehrwald

Tyrol: Waterfall circular route in Ehrwald

Parents often have the problem that they would like to hike, but the children (not yet) want to / are not able to participate. This little hike offers the perfect solution. Knowledge is conveyed to the children through games and entertainment, while parents can still enjoy the Tyrolean mountains and landscape.

Tour facts:

  • Start: a few meters after the Ehrwalder Almbahn car park (Dr. Ludwig Ganghoferstr 66, 6632 Ehrwald)
  • Einkehrmöglichkeiten: Brent Alm
  • Pure walking time: approx. 1 hour / with children you need approx. 1.5 hours
  • Difficulty: easy – especially suitable for children! Initially also possible with a stroller.
  • Total length of the route: 3.3 km long circular route
  • Höhenmeter: nur wenige 😉
  • Season: recommended June to mid-October, but possible at any time

The hike

We park again at the Ehrwalder Almbahnour hike to Seebensee and Drachensee started from here, and so does his circular route. Our hike starts at 10:30 a.m. A ride on the Almbahn is not necessary this time, the circular route leaves at the bottom of the valley station. The path runs along the Gaisbach to the headwaters. At the start, we take a hiking pass for our little ones with us.

There are several stations along the way where children can quench their thirst for knowledge. At the first station there is a small waterfall with a watermill in which a secret number is hidden. As soon as you have found it, you can enter it in the hiking pass. After a short splash we move on. The mascot “Zugspitzi” is a constant companion of the circular route.

At the second station, the path continues to the left along the water.

The path is beautiful, whether for young or old. After about half an hour you will reach the highest free falling waterfall in Tyrol. When we arrive, there is hardly anything to be seen of a waterfall, as there is hardly any water falling. In addition to the waterfall, there is something unusual to discover – that Herrenbründl: water gushes out of the mountain that disappears after 30m. Unfortunately, from here we only see it from a great distance.

A little later there is again the opportunity to photograph the waterfall through an artificially attached picture frame. As I said, there is hardly a waterfall to be seen these days, not even with the camera zoom. Nevertheless, the environment is fantastic.

After just under an hour, you will reach the highest point of the hike. Here you can stamp the children’s hiking pass. Wooden benches invite you to rest. We go down the easy path again, 3 secret numbers are still missing to complete the stamp card. Fortunately, we can solve the puzzle. For the correct code there is a small hiking pin for children (or adults) in the tourist office.

After about 1.5 hours we arrive back at the parking lot. Just right for lunch.

Brent Alm

The Brent Alm is located directly at the parking lot or the cable car station. We were here a few days ago when we hiked the Drachensee and Seebensee.

We order a cheese dumpling soup, Tyrolean Gröstl and a Kaiserschmarren.

The homemade soup is highly recommended, the Gröstl tasty, but also very oily. Well, fat is a flavor carrier.

The Kaiserschmarren comes with applesauce and cranberries and is simply world class!
