Arrival: The Journey to the Nature Adventure

The journey can be made either via Rohrmoos or Pichl into the Preuneggtal. From the Strickbrücke, a toll road leads directly to Ursprungalm. Alternatively, the hiking bus from Planet Planai in Schladming is available, traveling through Rohrmoos to Ursprungalm in Preuneggtal.

From the Parking Lot to Ursprungalm: A Commencement into Natural Beauty

Our journey commences at Ursprungalm. Here, the newly constructed hiking trail leads us to the spectacular source of Ursprungalmbach. The path meanders through alpine meadows, crosses bridges, passes secluded rock formations, and traverses small forests. At this point, the trail reveals a relatively steep incline, requiring a certain level of physical fitness. The path is well-graveled and easy to navigate. While manageable for children, it can be demanding. However, it is not suitable for strollers. In a short time, especially in late October, we reach the snow line.

This one-hour stretch encompasses both steeper and flatter sections, eventually leading us to the Old Giglachweg on the Preuneggsattel. After approximately one hour, we reach the Giglachseehütte, which unfortunately is closed during this season.

Circumnavigation of the Lake

We aim to circumnavigate the lake clockwise. The path initially ascends gently, offering an early view of the majestic peaks and the crystal-clear Giglach Lake.

With each step clockwise, the path gradually ascends, revealing breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain landscape. The gentle breeze and the silence of nature accompany hikers on this stretch, keeping the Giglachseehütte in the background within sight. After a short time, we reach the Ignaz-Mattis-Hütte. From this vantage point, a spectacular panoramic view unfolds, showcasing the surrounding mountain peaks. A perfect spot to pause, appreciate the beauty of nature, and reflect on the journey.

The most beautiful part of the hike

Continuing around the lake, we believe the most beautiful part of the hike unfolds. Descending from the Ignaz-Mattis-Hütte., the path leads almost to the lakeshore. From the broadside of the lake, you’ll have the most stunning view of the surroundings.

We continue our circumnavigation, now walking along the lakeshore. It’s an indescribable experience to stroll through the crunching snow.

At the end of our lake circumnavigation, we reach the starting point again and initiate the descent, which now proceeds swiftly. As a conclusion to the hike, a final view awaits us of Ursprungsalm, now adorned in vibrant autumn colors, rewarding us with its beauty.

Conclusion: Nature Experience at Giglach Lakes

The hike from Ursprungalm to Giglach Lakes not only presents scenic beauty but also a diverse route that captivates both experienced hikers and nature enthusiasts. The newly constructed Ursprungquellweg opens the gates to a small paradise in the Styrian Alps.
