In General
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, one of the world’s greatest composers, was born on January 27, 1756, in Salzburg. He spent his childhood and youth in the apartment of his parents, Leopold and Anna Maria, and his sister Nannerl on the third floor of the house. In 1773, the family moved to the Mozart Residence on Makartplatz.
You can easily find the house in Getreidegasse, as there is always a crowd of tourists taking photos in front of it.
The House Today
His birthplace is now a museum that commemorates his life and work. It houses an exhibition that provides visitors with insights into the life and work of the composer.
What You Can See in the Museum
The exhibition includes originals from Mozart’s time, including furniture, musical instruments, letters, and music scores. A highlight for Mozart fans: the historical instruments, such as Mozart’s childhood violin and clavichord. We also found it fascinating that four locks of Mozart’s hair are on display here. However, a genetic analysis revealed that only three of the four locks came from the same individual.
Additionally, there are interactive stations that introduce visitors to Mozart’s music.
