The windmill of Podersdorf is the larger of the last two of Austria's former four hundred windmills. Unlike the Retz windmill, it is completely above ground. It was built around 1800 and has been family-owned since 1849. It was in operation until around 1926. It has been a listed building since 1975. In 2001, the association Windmill Podersdorf am See It ensures the renovation and maintenance of the windmill, as well as the organization of the visitor operation.
The mill is 15 metres high and, with a good wind and suitable material, can grind up to 300 kilograms of grist per hour. The two grinding mechanisms were powered by the old canvas-covered windmills. The windmill is currently put into operation a few times a year and is used as an event venue.
