Secret photo paradise at Plansee: An Instagram hotspot in Tyrol
The Plansee is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in Tyrol and has gained popularity through Instagram - particularly because of a stunning viewpoint that many seek out. Even though the route there is neither official nor signposted, it is still easy to reach if you know where to look. This hidden perspective makes Plansee a sought-after destination for photography enthusiasts and nature lovers.
How do you get to this viewpoint at Plansee?
We start our hike at 11:00 a.m. at the bridge right by the campsite. The first impression is enchanting. The water shimmers in a beautiful green and people jump from the bridge into the cool water. You cross the bridge and turn left towards Lake Heiterwanger. There is a signpost right on the other bank.
After a 15-minute walk along the lake shore you reach a very distinctive scree gullythat leads from the mountain into the lake. The rock avalanche is impossible to miss. But you can't go up it yet!
Danger: The path to the viewpoint comes just a few meters after the scree gully. A fairly narrow path now leads to the right into the forest.
The forest path leads steeply upwards in serpentines. The path is not particularly beautiful, but every now and then you have a view that gives you an idea of what awaits you at the destination. You should definitely wear hiking boots. After about 45 minutes you reach the first magnificent viewpoint.
But it gets even better. The last part of the hike to the viewing point at Plansee is the most strenuous, but it's worth it. It goes up over a rock face again, the path is only secured with ropes. There are steep drops to the left and right. But don't worry, everyone can do it. Just don't rush!
After about 50 minutes you reach your destination and have a breathtaking Panorama of the Plansee and to the right the Heiterwanger See.Â
If you want, you can climb further, but we have heard from other hikers that the view doesn't get any better. In fact, the opposite is the case, as trees block the view again.
The end point is the hunter's hut, but that is also not very spectacular.
We make our way back home. Once we arrive at the bottom, another very popular photo spot: the boathouse at the lower end of the lake near the campsite.
Danger: Entering the jetty at the house is prohibited. Nevertheless, photos are taken here again and again.
