The Austrian National Library's Globe and Esperanto Museum is a real treasure for anyone interested in geography and languages. The museum, which is unique in the world, offers a unique collection of globes and mapsas well as an extensive selection of books and magazines dealing with the international language Esperanto. It is located in the splendid setting of the Palais Mollard. The exhibition area includes more than 250 exhibits - including exclusive terrestrial and celestial globes, lunar and planetary globes and several astronomical instruments.
The collection of globes and maps includes a wide variety of exhibits from different times and cultures. The oldest objects date back to the 16th century and show the world as it was known at that time. Particularly impressive are the Globes from the 18th centurywhich are elaborately handcrafted and represent a real work of art.
But it's not just the globes and maps that are fascinating, the Esperanto Museum offers a unique collection. Esperanto is a language invented by the Polish ophthalmologist Ludwik Zamenhof in 1887 with the aim of facilitating international communication without language barriers. The exhibition in the museum shows the history of this language and offers an extensive collection of books, magazines and other materials relating to Esperanto.
The museum also offers regular guided tours where you can delve even deeper into the history of globes and Esperanto. A special recommendation is the Guided tour "The world in pocket format"where you can view a unique collection of miniature globes.
