This could not be more prominent Butterfly House in Vienna It is located right next to the Hofburg, where Emperor Franz Josef I once resided with his wife Sissi. Even today, the Federal President can be found here. Directly in front of the butterfly house is the Burggarten, which has been freely accessible to everyone since 1919.

As soon as you enter the Palm House you can feel the pleasant tropical climate of 26°C and 80% humidity. In winter, it is advisable to hang your jacket in the cloakroom beforehand. After paying the entrance fee, you can move around the building freely.
The tour runs anti-clockwise in the palm house. Beautiful butterflies flutter past you again and again. Many of them can be seen while snacking on the natural nectar (such as hibiscus, lantana or plumbago) or to the artificial feeding stations (honey is sprayed on here). In other places you will also find fruit bowls. Each type of butterfly has its own food plant and lays its eggs exclusively on this type of plant. In the butterfly house you will also find banana plants, passion flowers and silk plants.
All year round you can about 40 different species of butterflies and A total of around 500 living and free-flying butterflies that come from tropical countries such as Costa Rica, Suriname, Thailand or the Philippines. By the way, these are NOT captured. No endangered species are shown or sold to collectors.
The also tropical plants and artificial waterfalls are intended to imitate a habitat as natural as possible, which we believe is relatively successful. A particularly beautiful view can be had from a small wooden bridge.
Theoretically, you could do the whole circuit in 5 minutes, but who wants to do that? After all, you're here to observe and photograph the butterflies. So you should allow between half an hour and an hour for the visit.
