Vorarlberg: Weekend at the Ifen Hotel Kleinwalsertal

Vorarlberg: Weekend at the Ifen Hotel Kleinwalsertal

After much anticipation, the time has finally come. We set off very early to spend the day in Hotel-Restaurant and in Kleinwalsertal. Since we are starting from Vienna and Salzburg, the journey is a bit long at six hours, but already at the border we see that it was absolutely worth it! Kleinwalsertal is a fairly remote place in Vorarlberg. Why do we call it remote?
In fact, the Kleinwalsertal can only be reached via Germany, as there is no road from Austria leading there due to the Alps. The Kleinwalsertal has a correspondingly German character: In addition to the local Walsers, you will find numerous German workers, holiday guests and, last but not least, German beer from the Allgäu.

Our room

In the Travel Charme Ifen Hotel we are immediately greeted in a friendly manner. After a brief description of the hotel complex, we are shown the room. This time we opted for a junior suite. When you get there, you are immediately overwhelmed by a huge, walk-in closet. Opposite is the beautiful bathroom with two sinks, a shower and a separate toilet. The room is also very spacious and is equipped with a comfortable couch, a coffee table, a mini-bar with a coffee machine and a large and comfortable double bed.
Our highlight? The balcony and the view of the hotel's infinity pool as well as the Kleinwalsertal and its massive mountains.

Short e-bike tour

Unfortunately, the weather is not quite playing along today, but we have decided to go on a little e-bike tour in and around the town. Hirschegg After a longer stop at the church and a few photos, we decided to go back to take a closer look at the hotel.

The spa area

The spa area has an indoor pool, a sauna area with various saunas, a spacious outdoor whirlpool for several people, a spacious gymnastics and course room and a fitness room with probably the coolest fitness equipment we have ever seen. Since it was quite cool outside, we only went into the heated infinity pool for a short time - tomorrow it should be nicer, so this will be perfect!

Dinner at Carnozet

We had already reserved a table in advance for the evening at the popular CARNOZET, a restaurant right in the hotel. The Walser specialty restaurant's decor amazed us as soon as we entered. The urban-alpine ambience, surrounded by sunburnt wood paneling with large glass fronts, is truly unique. It was really hard for us to decide when we were browsing the menu. We were allowed to choose between a set menu of up to 5 courses and an à la carte menu. After much back and forth, we finally decided on a mixture of both options - we enjoyed it!

Appetizers:

Intermediate course / soup

main course

After the wonderful culinary delight, we ended the evening on the terrace with a glass of wine...

Day 2 in Kleinwalsertal

We start our day by gathering our strength. Breakfast at the hotel is ideal for this. There we find an extensive buffet with a wide variety of products from the region and beyond.

our activities

Today we want to explore the mountains in Kleinwalsertal. First we will visit the Walmendingerhorn on the program. At 9 a.m. we set off by car and make our way to the Walmendingerhorn cable car. You can read our report here.

From the summit we discovered the Heart Lake – which immediately catches our attention because we only find it after a long search on Google Maps. We suspect it is near the Ifenbahn, where we are going next. Once there, we first take the gondola back up to the mountain station. Maybe we can hike down to the lake? We are disappointed to find out that this is unfortunately not possible. Nevertheless, we find it really beautiful on the mountain, You can find the experience report here.

Finally, we walk from the valley station to the Heart Lake, a real insider tip in our opinion. Here are a few photos as a foretaste, all information about the Herzsee can be found here.

Enough exploring, we drive back to Travel Charme Ifen HotelWe fortify ourselves at the afternoon buffet - which is also very generously laid out. There are two hot dishes, a large selection of cheese and sausages, fresh bread and various cakes to choose from. Here too, the quality is simply top notch!

We've earned a little rest. It's hot, the sun is shining - just the right thing to finally "jump" into the fantastic infinity pool, which was only newly built last year. After a quick shower, we climb into the cool water. We're almost alone in the pool, as at this time of day in the early afternoon, everyone seems to have gone hiking and biking. All the better for us, as right at the front there is a fantastic view of the Kleinwalsertal. We sit down on one of the 3 massage benches and turn on the jets... that's what we call pure relaxation. With the gentle bubbling, we let our souls drift and our gaze wander over the valley.

But we pull ourselves together again, deeply relaxed, because we still have one goal today: the natural stone bridge. Probably one of the most famous sights in Kleinwalsertal. We were there in just 10 minutes on the e-bike. We have also written a short article about this.

Dinner at Theo's

On the second evening we have a table at Theo's – also a restaurant in Ifen Hotel Kleinwalsertal – reserved. The food is excellent, just like the night before. 3 courses are served, with 2-3 choices for each course. We get the soup from the show kitchen and local cheese specialties from the buffet. For starters we choose the duck breast, which is served with various berries. Then we treat ourselves to an excellent celery foam soup and for the main course we choose picata.

Day 3 in Kleinwalsertal

After a rich breakfast at the Ifen Hotel we check out and drive towards RiezlernFinally, we want to visit the place and talk to the Pulpit wall railway drive to the Kanzelwand.

Details can be found in our report, but we can already tell you that the visit is really worth it. The view and the view of the Riezler Alpsee are simply fantastic.

It was a really great weekend in the fairytale Kleinwalsertal. The travel time was absolutely worth it. The Travel Charme Ifen Hotel is really an extraordinarily beautiful hotel, which we are happy to recommend with a clear conscience. We will be back! ☺️
