Mittelberg: Alpine village in the heart of the Kleinwalsertal

Mittelberg is a picturesque alpine village in the Kleinwalsertal, surrounded by impressive mountains and idyllic meadows. The place is the perfect starting point for hikes and ski tours in the surrounding mountains. With its charming atmosphere and numerous leisure activities, Mittelberg is the ideal holiday destination for nature lovers and those seeking relaxation.

Short info:

  • Where is Mittelberg? In Kleinwalsertal, Vorarlberg
  • What is there to see? The parish church of St. Jodok, the Austrian Alps.
  • What can you experience? Mittelberg is a perfect starting point for hikers and cyclists. In winter it is a ski resort, particularly popular with cross-country skiers.

Mittelberg is one of 3 villages in the Vorarlberg Kleinwalsertal, next to Hirschegg and pinion gearsThe Walsertal covers an area of 97 km². It is about 15 km long and about 6.5 km wide. A total of 5,000 people live in the Kleinwalsertal.  Mittelberg is located at an altitude of 1215 meters,

The special thing about this Austrian valley is that it can only be reached by car via Germany. To get to the “rest” of Austria, you either have to hike or take a 45km car journey.
For this reason, even before the introduction of the euro, the only currency in Kleinwalsertal was the D-Mark.

At the highest point of the town stands the parish church of St. Jodok with the oldest church tower in Kleinwalsertal, just behind it is the Lourdes Chapel from 1897.

The Walmendingerhorn cable car also starts from here, which we have of course tested for you. From the mountain station you can go hiking and skiing in winter.

From Schwendle you can reach the Wildental via hiking trails and from Bödmen you can reach the Gemsteltal.

In addition, there is access to the Steinbockloipe in winter.
