Short info:
- Where is Hirschegg? In Kleinwalsertal, Vorarlberg (not to be confused with Hirschegg in Styria)
- What is there to see? The Parish Church of St. Anna, Austrian Alps.
- What can you experience? Hirschegg is a perfect starting point for hikers and cyclists. In winter it is a ski resort.
Hirschegg is one of 3 villages in Vorarlberg’s Kleinwalsertal, besides Mittelberg und Ritzlern. The Walsertal covers an area of 97 km². It is about 15 km long and about 6.5 km wide. A total of 5,000 people live in Kleinwalsertal. Hirschegg is 1122 meters above sea level.
The special feature of this Austrian valley is that it can only be reached by car via Germany. To get to the “rest of” Austria, you either have to hike or take a 45 km long drive.
For this reason, even before the introduction of the euro, there was only D-Mark in Kleinwalsertal.
In the center of Hirschegg you will find the very beautiful parish church of St. Anna, which is visible from almost every point in the area. Not far from there is also the elementary school with kindergarten and a large public children’s playground and the Walserhaus right on the village square.
The valley station of the Parsennbahn is also in Hirschegg.
Another highlight is the Ifenbahn, which we have of course tested for you.
Of course there are a few hotels in Hirschegg, including the Ifen Hotel Kleinwalsertal
